We Are Chattel
I see two worlds. One for me and you, and one for the 'Others' who control us. And there is no respite despite your voting right.
A Boomer in the grocery store asks me if I’m going to buy the Canadian ketchup, you know, the one the Prime Minister said would help us fight off the scary Americans. Her tone suggests she’s sussing me up as some sort of MAGA Canadian because she can see I’m a tired, retired, military guy (just trying to survive the weekly grocery shop).
But what if I don’t want ketchup? What if I don’t want that ketchup? What if I don’t want to take part in the sorting of everything and anything into left and right, red or blue? Now she’ll look down on me as some sort of Poilievre or Trump supporter, which, apparently, if I’m reading her face correctly— is bad.
Lately it seems like political affiliation or what ‘side’ we’re on needs to be signalled, or if not and you refuse, you’ll get stereotyped and someone will decide for you. Society is becoming stratified; restaurants, towns, places, events, and even online platforms cater to one side or the other, and the people want to know, no— they need to know, are you left or right? Elbows up? MAGA? et cetera… which are you? But what if I see through the whole entire gong show and don’t want to be anything?
The political landscape in Canada, America, and Europe is on fire. A constant battle with rhetoric that never ends. Both sides seem to have the right answer. Just choose them, things will be different. But I dunno, they’ve all had a turn, and when I look around, things seems to be getting worse, way worse, everywhere and always. There’s nothing new under the sun as they say.
I look at her, her eyes hopefully poised that she might have convinced me that her side (at least in this particular aspect) is right. But I want to squeeze that little confused and lost Boomer and tell her the truth right there in the condiments aisle. To sit her down on the linoleum next to the fancy mustards and mayo, and tell her how I actually feel, to tell her what’s happening to her. So as not to be type cast in with the hopeless heaps of society and maybe, just maybe, save one lost soul.
If she’d let me, I’d say the current state of affairs for us mortals in the 21st century is this: We live in a carefully constructed reality to make us think that all the exploitation, war, slavery, and subjugation of humans by greedy powerful elites are things of the past; when in fact the powers that be, the politicians and leaders who run our world are exploiting, warring, and enslaving us on a scale and style like never seen before.
Let’s call them the ones on the other side. They’re not all politicians and powerful CEOs of course, some are celebrities or figureheads co-opted to make sure we believe; not believe in ourselves— but to believe in them. That they’ve learned the lessons and know what’s best for us.
Make no mistake. There is a dividing line in our world. And you are very clearly on one side or the other. Asking yourself a few simple questions will let you know which side you’re on;
Do you: wait in line to see a doctor, work for an hourly wage, wait in line at the airport and fly on a regular plane, eat fast food or things from the grocery store, have power lines or cellphone towers near your home, witness crime and homelessness, work your ass off to hopefully one day ‘retire’, and do you get informed about how much you owe the government?
Or do you: fly on private jets, get told when disasters are going to happen, frequent the World Economic Forum and Hollywood award ceremonies, sit on podiums or in front of TV cameras and tell people how much of their hard-earned money you need to steal from them and feed them half-truths and lies (but also at the same time have specialists to help you and your family pay the least amount of taxes humanly possible), are not held criminally responsible for crimes, and have access to the ‘real’ medicine?
I think you know who I’m talking about now. And chances are you’ve never met anyone from the other side. It behooves the Others to keep us away.
The other side isn’t a political party or class — it’s a mindset and secret club. A rotating coalition of elites, media, institutions, and corporations who share one interest: preserving control, deepening dependency, and extracting energy from the masses, regardless of who’s in office.
But they have not learned the lessons of history, of hate, of greed, and of absolute power corrupting absolutely. They’ve only become craftier, sneakier, and more sinister; creating broad technological and psychological ways of oppressing us and simultaneously hiding it from us.

Think of it. Of all the advancements in technology, science, and medicine, in the last hundred or so years, what’ve we got? We don’t have flying cars, we don’t know the nature of reality, and we don’t live longer. We commute and work further and for longer, we can’t agree on what a woman is, and we live under a government (chosen by less than half of us) that serves up suicide as an antidote to what ails us.
Those on the other side, despite what they say, truly do live in a different reality than us. And are doing things to the detriment of us all. Which only leaves one question— why?
If governments and leaders were truly by the people / for the people, we’d see an increase in scale and quality of the things the people want. But there is no increase in the scale and quality of the things the people of this land want, enjoy, or are prideful of. Canada is not a vast distributor of energy to the world, Canada is not the maple syrup, fish, wild game, beef, or grain maker capital of the world. Canada does not control the Northwest Passage. And Canada does not have an increasing cultural heritage or sense of nationalistic pride that draws us in closer to each other and what it means to be a Canadian on this land.
Canada does not build any structures or wonders. Canada can’t even build its own ferry boats, ships, or military equipment anymore. We are no longer peacemakers, we are not anything, we are lost and divided. We are a land of plain aloof pretentious idiots living on borrowed time while those on the other side reduce our resources, our reputation, and divide us against ourselves.
We are "willing slaves of the welfare state"
C.S. Lewis
The great societies and cultures are ones who are not lead by those seeking to extract wealth and resources for their own personal benefit (unfortunately a rarity on earth). The greats use the nations resources and specific abilities or cultural highlights to the benefit of the nation— as well as the rest of the world. Their leaders are the ones who sit down and think how can we make this better, how can it be beautiful, and how can we improve life.
For example:
Italy during the Renaissance, an artistic and cultural flourishing as well as banking, and trade, in the 14th and 15th centuries.
Ancient Greece, intellectual and philosophical discovery and growth, democratic governance, and military innovation. And,
America and Briton during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, human rights, industrializing the world, and capitalism (the true version, not what’s happening today).
Can you see the difference between societies that prosper and ones that don’t? Can you see that you are not living in a society that is being run well— despite how it feels during your day-to-day. And if not, I’ll spell it out for you. The societies that leverage their unique abilities and people, as well as their own natural resources, will thrive. The people get behind it because they are prideful in what they create, and the world responds because the world needs the unique thing(s) they have.
Nations thrive when they harvest and share their unique and special resources and abilities with the world.
Nations falter and crumple when they exploit their human resource.
So why do it? Because the ones on the other side get extremely wealthy and powerful. Selling you nationalistic pride in a country (something they do not care about at all) is a powerful and well known trick to convince you to suffer more. And in Canada— to suffer politely, quietly— and unarmed.

If they wanted to sustain their greed with anything other than exploiting us (say for example, to actually do some of the things they say to get elected; like peace, green energy, smart immigration, Canadian first production, or just in general becoming a wealthy and prideful country) then we would see an increase in the efficacy, scale, and quality of those achievements and things. But we do not see that, we only see a degradation of anything good or of taste in our country. The only thing increasing in scale is people and ways to exploit, divide, and distract them.
They use fake metrics and statements to fool us into thinking things are going well. But who the hell cares about our gross domestic product and interest rates when our children can’t find jobs or afford homes. Don’t let them fool you any longer, they’re driving this ship aground and pillaging everything they can before the wreck.
chattel, noun;
… an enslaved person held as the legal property of another
— Merriam-Webster
The people on the other side don’t want a strong and prosperous Nation. What they want— and are getting— is more chattel churning through their fake money in a never ending consumption of water-downed garbage and endless-dopamine-robbing-swiping-and-scrolling on blue lit screens that keep us sick, stressed, dependent, and too slow and stupid to ever see the cage.
Consume consume, tax tax, spend spend, and work work— be a happy cow.
Consume with one click,
work from ‘home’,
taxed if you want to leave,
and “radical” if you try to complain.
They're benefitting from creating a system that needs to be to fuelled and supported by increasingly more interesting ways of exploiting energy, time, and the health of people— the more the better.

Any notion or idea of ‘Canada’ is not on their minds. It’s just a sub-region of control for those on the other side, and the more willing idiots they have in the sub region, the better. Chattel to be managed and controlled in a fashion nearest to the brink of calamity to sieve out the most ‘profits’ from human development, collective meaning, and energy, before there's a bank run— and the inmates take over the asylum.
The fact that Bramptonians (people from my hometown Brampton) were completely replaced by people from India and other South Asian countries makes no different to the people on the other side. They sit in tax payer funded open concept municipal offices overlooking the land and people for whom that they've declared to serve but sold out. They were never there to uphold whatever values and way of life the town and the people who created it had in mind. They’re players from the other side. They came to steal.
The players on the other side are real. They tweak and perfect their craft. They plan and adjust while we fight and struggle.
On the other side they plan. They plan for us to see the absolute most amount of advertisements during our day and create a game where our only way to avoid seeing them is to pay someone, monthly— forever.
On the other side they plan. They plan ways to lie directly to our faces and reap the rewards for doing so behind our backs. And then cover it all up with vague laws and hypocritical rules that don’t seem to apply evenly across the society and divert the media to make us focus on or worry about something else.
And on the other side the plan ways to make us sick and stay sick. Maximum value needs to be extracted from the chattel, not maximum shelf-life. And they do everything to prevent us from seeing the truth of what is healthy. What is it today? Is caffeine back to being good or still bad? I can’t keep track.
No medical or political person should be telling us not to go outside (this— and taking our guns— should be clue number 1 and 2) and avoid sunlight [re: covid]. I don't think humans hiding from the sun, the one thing that gives this whole planet life and energy, is well advised.
Sun is energy, sun is life. All life (on our planet at least) needs 3 things to grow and thrive: light, water, and magnetism. Seems simple, maybe too simple? Nah, simple is right. What’s wrong? Look around. Everything the people on the other side tell us that we need screws with those 3 base elements:
We’re stupid if we don’t put on a hat, UV protected and polarized sunglasses, SPF one thousand sunscreen, and— actually better yet— just stay indoors. The UV index is too high; says someone from the other side.
We’re stupid if we drink fresh water. Yeah— we need water with fluoride, we need water with extra electrolytes, in fact, what we need is alcohol and sugary drinks, water can wait. And when we do need water, we’re better off getting it in a plastic container sold to us by one of those companies also selling the sugary drinks and alcohol, gee I wonder why. And what the hell is fluoride anyway?
And we’re stupid if we try to manage our electro-magnetic spectrum. The ones on the other side are saying it’s okay to stick stacks and bundles of 5G cell towers on top of residential buildings. What? That it’s okay to carry around a small super-computer blasting out signals and bluetooth in our pockets all day? You sure? And it’s okay— no, culturally mandatory— to stick headphones into our ears and next to our brains? And to have Wi-Fi signals bouncing off our children all day, at home, at school, and in every single public place? Wtf?
Yeah maybe we’re stupid, or maybe the ones on the other side have upped their game in a big way.
I’m going with the latter.
We are the resource. We are chattel.

“The perfect dictatorship would have the appearance of a democracy, but would basically be a prison without walls.”
Aldous Huxley
Even the clothes you’re wearing right now. They’re perfectly designed and crafted by the people on the other side to make sure it degrades and falls apart in a speed that isn’t too fast or too slow, but just right, so you don’t realize the cycle of consumption you’re on. And styled in such an almost perfect way to be fashionable enough for you to need it right now, but out of fashion in a timeline that extracts the most value from you over your lifetime.
Those on the other side aren't motivated to facilitate a way for you to get the most optimal and life force increasing t-shirt that also instills a sense of nationalistic pride because it was designed and made in Kitchener or Calgary? No. Their objective is to extract the most amount of energy from the dominant energy source of the kingdom... You. A serf.
Because no matter how much you squeeze your brain to feel different from the tiny little peasant destined to work the land (he does not own) for the king until he dies and is buried under it, in fact you are the exact same. The only difference; for which millions of dollars, expertise, and geniuses, have been put to work for decades to hide from you; is that while the peasant knowingly and begrudgingly hands over his crop to the kingdom, you have no idea what you’ve lost and who stole it. Your time, money, energy, and health, and attention have been plundered and pillaged nefariously and consistently. We are chattel for those on the other side. We are the walking dead.
But that’s a lot to say,
so… pass me the elbows up ketchup I guess, thanks.
my apologies for the pessimism.
Man. Good read. Canada is a perfect example of a culture of mediocrity. I finally understand why so many successful Canadians go to the U.S. it’s the only logical place to thrive and do more good for the world.
